Parque Doña Inés is a Metropolitan Arboretum and Botanical Garden located to the southeast of San Juan adjacent to the Luis Muñoz Marín Foundation. This beautifully landscaped park provides locals, students and tourist a peaceful environment for reflection and study.
There are over 2,250 native trees representing more than 70& of Puerto Rican flora providing and important laboratory for protecting, investigating and propagating the species.
Many of the trees are grouped into themed areas such as the Palm Belt, Cathedral Ceiba with 14 majestic Cieba trees planted to form a cathedral effect, Caribbean Forest, Boriquen Forest where you can appreciate trees native only to Puerto Rico just to name a few. The section are connected by a series of trails that are clearly marked with informational placards describing the particular tree on display.
Inside the Borinquen Forest there is and overlook providing panoramic views of Trujillo Alto, San Juan and Isla Verde as well as the park grounds.
The heart of the Metropolitan Arboretum Parque Doña Inés is the Nursery. As a matter of fact Parque Doña Inés is the sole distributor of trees to the El Yunque Caribbean Rainforest. Other functions include collecting seeds for the propagation of native and endemic species for conservation.
