Located in the huge open courtyard of The Cuartel de Ballaja in Old San Juan, Don Ruiz has a distinctly European-cafe feel.
Opened in February 2013, this is one of the Specialty Coffee Shops of Old San Juan, brewing 'farm to shop' beans for a smooth and robust cup of Puerto Rico's finest.
Inside the decor is chic, it would be at home in the museums of London and Paris, whilst the outdoor seating provides a tranquil setting and retreat from the heat, even on the weekends.
Don Ruiz also serves a variety of sandwiches, pastries, and crepes not forgetting the quintessential Mallorca, to be washed down with a heavenly cup of coffee.
In the future Head Barista Josue Sanjurjo, who is always more than helpful, hopes to run a coffee roasting workshop and museum in the shop for customers to learn more about their daily cup.
