Located on the corner of Calle San Sebastián and San José in Old San Juan, La Tortuga does seem slightly out of place surrounded by San Juan's popular late night bars, as it is a neighbourhood bakery and pizzeria.

It can be difficult to locate fresh tasting bread, especially by European standards, in Old San Juan. But La Tortuga make delicious baguettes so it is worth visiting if you are looking to buy bread. They also have a wide array of pastries, cakes and doughnuts.

The cafe serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Lunch customers mainly go for the range of pizzas, which they always have on offer with Medalla beer for the perfect budget lunch option. You may also choose sandwiches, pastas, wings and much more.

The staff are friendly and helpful, several times they have paid the extra ten cents for bread when short on cash, and they make you feel like a San Juan local.
