Tour Description
Begin at sunset in the fishing village of Las Croabas, where friendly guides provide check-in, gear including botanical-based insect repellent, and Kayak 101 safety training.
Paddle across a small fisherman’s harbor to Las Cabezas de San Juan Reserve’s entrance. Navigate a quiet channel lined with mangrove tunnels, surrounded by local wildlife sounds.
After 25 to 30 minutes, your guide will share insights on:
- The mangrove forest and its species
- Birdlife inhabiting the area
- Marine life using the lagoon as an estuary
- Bioluminescent organisms
- History of the nearby lighthouse
- Seven out of eight ecosystems found in the area
Enter Laguna Grande and paddle along the mangrove edges, watching bioluminescent blue-green and white-green light flicker with each paddle stroke. - Will I get wet? Yes, participants will get wet. Kayaks are lined in the water, requiring entry waist or knee-deep. Bring a change of clothes or towels. Guides assist in boarding.
- Is open ocean involved? No. The tour includes a 10 to 15 minute paddle through Las Croabas harbor inside a protected reef. The rest of the tour is inside mangrove channels and the lagoon.
- Can guides wait if I’m late? The guides allow a 5 to 10 minute buffer. After that, they cannot wait. Late arrivals, no shows, or cancellations at the last minute are non-refundable.
